The artist/s will organise a programme of activity that will draw on existing knowledge and resources within the city. The general public, groups and professionals with a range of backgrounds will be invited to contribute to building a broader picture of Cardiff, connecting the public to the festival and the festival to the public within the context of past, existing and planned projects.
Outline:
Their activity would centre on a laboratory, which would be open to the public during the festival. In addition to ‘passing traffic’, various groups will be invited to a / number of exchange workshops with the artist/s. This commission would attempt to inverse or reorder information for the public, offering new explorations and interpretations to the festival’s theme and programme. More specifically, this commission would address an important aspect of new media ´ how digitised information is ordered and navigated.
A studio will be available at the host, Chapter, during the residency period. For further information on the host visit www.chapter.org. It is thought that the artist will establish a fixed or touring laboratory/studio within the city centre as part of the project.
The festival is being developed between bloc and Chapter. The residency programme for the festival is supported and managed by Cywaith Cymru/Artworks Wales), the national organisation for public art in Wales. The festival residencies are supported through the National Lottery celebration of Cardiff 2005.
Fee: There is a fee of £4,800 (40 days), materials budget of £2,000, and outreach travel of £250.
