Outline:
This seminar will build on the theme of ‘collaborative knowledge development’ established in the first Northern Bloc seminar, to investigate and profile practitioners and companies who exploit Open Source software (software which is free to use, change and augment) and open ways of working.
Looking at a range of practice from the visual artist, to the international web consultant and linguists collaboratively developing Welsh language software, the seminar will investigate how the methods and products of the free software movement can be utilised in the creative technology sector. The event will include examples of how the web design community has improved the internet for all users by releasing code for others to use; art education projects and art installations which use free software; and the benefits of open source for the development of viable Welsh language software and operating systems.
The seminar will be followed by refreshments and a chance to network with other practitioners in the area.
A simultaneous translation service will be provided.
