This collaborative art project between the National Museum of Cardiff and PhD researcher Sarah Younan, Cardiff Metropolitan University, aims to bring museum collections alive using 3D scanning and printing technologies.

For this project artefacts from the museum collections are scanned and the 3D models are shared wth artists working in digital media. Collaborating artists are invited to create new pieces of work from these scans. The new artworks will be exhibited in the museum alongside the original artefacts in April 2014.

They are currently looking for artists interested in participating in (Im)material Artefacts.

This project offers an opportunity to show work at the National Museum of Cardiff. The original arefacts that were scanned for this project will be on show, surrounded by the submitted artworks. We accept digital files for 3D printing, and screen-based work. 3D printing will take place on tabletop printers, within the museum galleries. The dimensions of work for 3D printing should be no larger than 210x210x205mm.

How many pieces you submit and what form they take is entirely up to you, but all submitted work must be based on one (or several) of the museum scans.

This project relates to doctoral research, and we would like to conduct interviews with some of the participating artists. You will also be asked to fill out a short questionnaire. We are interested in following your creative process, so please share screenprints, sketches and ideas along the way.

Hand-in date for finished work is the 3rd of February 2014, we will let you know if your work has been selected by the 1st of March. The exhibition will open at the National Museum of Wales in April 2014.

This is an exciting prospect. There are £1 million of contracts to be won by agile small businesses in the few weeks.

Inventorium have worked with BCUHB to secure a Small Business Research Initiative whose aim is to

increase time nurses devote to bedside care by 10%

The brief does outline some of the issues but they are genuinely interested in innovative solutions.

The specific call asks:

Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board are collaborating with the Welsh Government and Technology Strategy Board to launch a new £1m Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) competition to find innovative technology based solutions for Health Care.

The focus of this competition is to find new technologies that can make a real difference to patients and nursing staff. The competition offers an opportunity for innovative businesses to work with the NHS in Wales to help solve the anecdotal problem of nursing time being diverted from patient care. Our problem space is: Nurses spend more time than desirable on activities other than patient care, these activities include:

Serial recording of the same patient information.

Repeated sharing of the same information with colleagues and other agencies.

Collecting and recording necessary data for audit purposes.

Bed management (finding beds for patients).

Requesting and chasing investigations and test results for patients.

Finding and completing paper documentation.

The applications need to be in on January 31st.

5 teams can be awarded £40K to fully develop proposals for innovative solutions starting in March.

2 teams will be selected in June to receive £400K Purchase Viagra for implementing the solutions.
