Supercharge 2013

7:48 pm in Events, What's Exciting by bloc

Inventorium is pleased to be facilitating at this HPC Wales Event on June 25th.

Register here

High Performance Computing (HPC) or ‘supercomputing’ is a form of technology that many small to medium business owners consider out of reach, but access to it is no longer limited to large companies with big spending power.

The advanced technology can power breakthroughs in product, process or service development, strengthening a business’ position in the market and boosting competitiveness. In an increasingly pressured global market, supercomputing can help small businesses make the forward strides that can make a lasting difference.

At HPC Wales, we’ve helped our customers harness the power of supercomputing so they can cut time to market, grow faster and transform profitability. On Tuesday 25th June, we’re running an event in Bangor to help businesses in Wales understand how supercomputing could energise their work and to preview some exciting new funding opportunities in Wales.
At this unique event, you’ll learn how high performance computing or ‘supercomputing’ could energise your business and accelerate your growth. You’ll also be able to find out about upcoming opportunities to access funding for innovative projects, including a call for HPC-related projects from the UK’s Innovation agency (the Technology Strategy Board).

Research tender: Digital r&d fund for the Arts in Wales

8:00 pm in Opportunities, Other, What's Exciting by bloc

The AHRC, Arts Council of Wales and NESTA are working in partnership on the Digital Research & Development Fund for the Arts in Wales. The Fund aims to test ideas and to pilot new ways of working in the arts and achieve a ‘step change’ in performance, either by expanding audience reach and engagement and/or by opening up new ways of generating financial revenues. The call for Expressions of Interest from Research Team Consortia is open. Further details and information on how to apply can be found on the Nesta website.

The Digital R&D Fund for the Arts will test digital propositions through careful research design and then disseminate research findings to other arts and cultural organisations.

Desired outcomes from the R&D fund include: a portfolio of case studies that inspire deeper and wider audience engagement with the arts, and a better understanding of emerging business models; new relationships between technology companies, researchers and cultural institutions that lead to collaborations beyond the fund; demonstration of a successful model for supporting digital R&D in the arts, and a rigorous definition of digital R&D in the arts that is used to inform policy development.

The Digital R&D Fund for the Arts in Wales is looking for a research consortium to help select the supported projects and to deliver the research outputs.

Deadline: 12noon, Friday 5 July 2013

Objects Sandbox Ideas Labs

8:29 am in Opportunities, Other, What's Exciting by bloc

Save the date now for these October events

REACTs next funding area is Objects Sandbox. New technologies embedded in real things can allow objects themselves to tell us their stories and start conversations outside of performance, page or screen. This sandbox will bring the skills of artists, makers and researchers to explore the look, feel and potential of this new area of work, often referred to as the Internet of Things. Successful projects will involve physical objects that communicate using networked technologies but the output could range from buildings to clothing, craft to games.

The Ideas Lab will be an integral part of the bidding process for Objects Sandbox. If interested in this call you should plan to attend one of the below events. The day will give you an opportunity to learn more about the scheme, share and refine your idea, get inspired and meet potential collaborators. You do not need to have an idea or partner in place already to attend.

We will be publishing full briefing documents over the summer when you will be able to book your place at one of these events. The deadline for written applications will be in December and the projects will run from March to May next year.

Make a note of these dates now:

Cardiff Ideas Lab, Chapter: Wednesday 9 October 2013

Exeter Ideas Lab, Phoenix: Thursday 17 October 2013

Bristol Ideas Lab, Watershed: Friday 18 October 2013
