MUTEK: Electronic Music and Digital Creativity Festival

12:00 am in Festivals by bloc

Date: 28 May – 1 Jun 2008
Website: www.mutek.org
Location: international

Outline:

Assembling a compelling program for a festival these days is no easy accomplishment. The aim with MUTEK has always been to look forward, to imagine a future – in all its implications – where technology is the driving engine of aesthetic advancement. Back in 2000, this vision was an tangential subsection to many people, an obscurity relegated to the fringes of the avant-garde arts. Nine years later, digital technology is the driving engine of creativity at all levels. MUTEK 2008 has attempted to reflect the eclecticism and opportunity of this shift, with a program that is more diverse than ever before.

The cutting edge of international electronic music has always been this festival`s strong suit, and 2008 is no exception: from CRISTIAN VOGEL to THE FIELD, from CHLO to SLEEPARCHIVE, international acts in all their thriving variations are represented in spades. Other artists include CARL CRAIG, UNDERGROUND RESISTANCE, CHRISTIAN FENNESZ, RECHENZENTRUM, BEN FROST, TIM HECKER, MURCOF, DEADBEAT, KODE 9 & SPACE APE

Full programme information, tickets and packages for the events are available now at www.mutek.org.

The exhibition project in Berlin, HACK.Fem.EAST, seeks to present experimental and artistic practices of artists and activists working in digital networks in Eastern Europe. Main topics are media, art and hacking. The focus of the exhibition is on presenting a use of media located somewhere between hacking, art and hacktivism which is driven forward by an international counterculture and avant-garde: the main protagonists are women or projects in which women play an important role.

The aim of the project is to provide and to develop a network platform. This is achieved through five elements: the exhibition, workshops, a conference, a publication in newspaper format, and a website bringing the aspects of the project together.
